Vacancy: Communication Advisor for MEP Karen Melchior

Karen Melchior’s office is recruiting an experienced press and communications officer (Danish and English required, other EU languages a bonus) to join her team in Brussels on a full-time basis.

The Communication Advisor produces and advises on communication and media outputs as well as participating in the more strategic long term work. The communication advisor will be advising team members as well as MEP Karen Melchior. 

Main tasks will focus on content creation for social media and website, managing and planning social media, branding of MEP Karen Melchior, designing merchandising, drafting newsletters, maintaining relations with press, interview requests, coordinating events and public appearances.

Supporting and strengthening Karen Melchior’s voice, presence and visibility. Taking responsibility for both strategic and day to day planning, scheduling and execution of communication 

Your main tasks and responsibilities as a Communication Advisor will be

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting speeches, articles and op-eds, blog posts, newsletter, information materials etc.
  • Providing briefing notes for interviews, events, and/or public appearances
  • Leading on external requests for interviews, events, visits
  • Presentations (PowerPoint)
  • Content creation for video, photo, graphics, editing etc.

Online Platforms

  • Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn (potentially others)
  • Proactively propose and develop social media content, its implementation (filming, photography, and post-production)
  • Website (Wordpress)

Press

  • Cultivate and maintain relations with the press and networks
  • Handle press invitations and requests

Some of your competences, qualifications or experience

You are well versed in press relations and political communications and an understanding of how journalists work. You have been responsible for planning long term strategic communications and have a keen eye for a good story. 

You have experience with journalistic and creative writing as well as media editing for both video, audio, photos, and graphics.

You have an understanding of the mechanics of policy and legislative work in the European Parliament and political groups within the parliament; Outspoken and willing to stand up for your opinions and views – both within the team and outside the team; Sociable and at ease in a multicultural environment.

Experience 

You have a minimum 3 years’ experience from working in either an editorial office / news desk, political or advocacy organization, preferably both.

Working hours, location and salary

Full time (40 hours per week), with flexible working hours around the parliamentary calendar. Overtime is strictly regulated in our team and may not exceed 150 hours over a 6-month period.

Place of work will be Brussels with regular missions to Strasbourg (plenary sessions) and Denmark. Salary is competitive and according to the MEP assistant grade system. Grade placement according to experience and education.

Karen Melchior’s office consists of three other accredited assistants, typically supported by two interns. Karen is a member of the Renew Europe-group in Parliament, and we work closely with the group secretariat as well as other Renew MEP offices.
