In addition to salary and daily allowances, MEPs receive a monthly General Expenditure Allowance (GEA) of €4,950. This flat-rate sum is designed to cover the costs associated with running an office, not only in Brussels and Strasbourg, but also in your constituency, in my case in Denmark.
What is the General Expenditure Allowance (GEA)?
The GEA is a fixed monthly allowance provided to all MEPs to support their office operations. It covers a variety of expenses, including:
- Office rent and maintenance in all locations (Brussels, Strasbourg, and constituency) IT equipment and software
- Office supplies
- Phone and internet bills
While the European Parliament doesn’t require publishing expense reports for the GEA, I believe in open communication with my constituents. Therefore, you will find a breakdown of my GEA spending below. This breakdown highlights how these funds are allocated across various categories.
